Art as Process
How I work and come up with ideas
Art, for me, is not the individual art pieces but the process of making those works and how it affects your future way of thinking. When I'm working on two projects for a month or two, they slowly collide and react to each other, often either exchanging traits or growing greater in contrast between them.
This process is not a polished one, not something to use when searching for the “perfect” composition or a distilled version of a story, the crux of an emotion. Instead, it produces a complex image with nuance, surprises, and sometimes even contradicting values. A striking comparison can be made with characters in your favorite movie or book. Which characters stay with you all your life? Which characters get ingrained into your being for their struggle and deeds? More often than not, these are complex people with flaws, and contradicting characteristics, faced by dilemmas. Think of Gollum in Lord of the Rings, Batman, the Joker in the 2019 movie, Zuko in Avatar, Snape in Harry Potter and many more.
We humans like things that are sorted out, but we love to sort it out ourselves. Hence our love for complexity. That feeling there’s something beneath the surface, something to be discovered.
I'm still working on this part of the website!
